I used the REYAX RYLR998 as the LoRa radio on both ends of this build because it makes long-range serial communication really approachable for beginners. Once you’ve got UART wired up, you can send sensor data as a simple payload and read it right back on the other side.

Pros

  • +Long-range, low-power LoRa link that doesn’t need Wi‑Fi or internet
  • +Simple UART interface works great with ESP32
  • +Receiver output includes useful stats like RSSI and SNR

Cons

  • -Requires correct UART wiring (TX/RX crossed) and matching settings on both modules
  • -You need to pay attention to 3.3V logic levels
